Some of the best players in the world will play in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, to showcase their attributes related to the game. Amongst them will be some of the finest and deadliest strikers of the game who would want to win the coveted Golden Boot award. Below I am predicting the top scorers of the FIFA World Cup 2018.
- Romelu Lukaku (Belgium)- The left footed tall robust forward has been in superb form for his club and country. His physicality helps him to get around defenders and he is very good in the opponent’s box. He has a finesse shot and is equally good in the air. He has scored 27 goals in the entire season for his new club Manchester United. Lukaku has also scored 9 goals out of 9 games this year donning his national colours.
My prediction: 4 goals
- Antoine Griezmann (France)- He is a quick modern left footed forward with a tremendous appetite for goals. Griezmann is adept in finishing with both his feet. He has the ability to build up play from the midfield and also creates lot of chances for other teammates to score. This season he scored 29 goals and 15 assists for his club Atletico Madrid. In Euro Championship in 2016 he went on to win the golden boot with 6 goals.
My prediction: 5 goals
- Harry Kane (England)- If England stand any chance to getting into the latter stages then their star forward Harry Kane needs to fire. Kane has been in astounding form. He scored 41 goals in 48 games for his club Tottenham Hotspur this season. He has been equally in good form with his national team where he scored 5 times in 6 World Cup qualifying matches. He has drawn comparisons with the legendary Alan Shearer because of his all round ability as a striker.
My prediction: 5 goals
- Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)- This is Ronaldo’s last shot at FIFA World Cup. How fitting would it be if he won the World Cup and also the Golden Boot award? Although he is ageing and not in his prime, he still has scored more than 40 times for his club this season and 15 times in 9 games in the World Cup qualifiers for Portugal. With minnows Iran and Morocco in the group, expect him to score plenty in the group stages itself.
My prediction: 5 goals
- Edinson Cavani(Uruguay)- Cavani is a quick, prolific and opportunistic striker with incredible technique. He is equally good in air and with his feet. For consecutive seasons in French Lique 1 he has topped the top scoring charts. This season he has scored 40 goals for his club Paris Saint Germain in just 48 games. Post the 2014 World Cup, he has scored 18 times in 30 matches for Uruguay.
My prediction: 6 goals
- Thomas Muller (Germany) – Muller plays as an attacking all-rounder for both country and club. This season in particular has been a real low down for Bayern Munich’s Muller, as he has scored only 15 times out of the 45 games he played for his club. But he has something about the World Cups. He has already been a winner of the Golden Boot in 2010 and a runners-up in 2014. He already has 10 goals in his kitty in the World Cups. With no Miroslav Klose in front for Germany one can expect Muller to occupy that position. and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him in the top of the all time scoring charts by the end of the tournament in Russia.
My prediction: 6 goals
- Lionel Messi(Argentina)- He is the best player in the game. A prolific goal scorer, he is known for his finishing, positioning, quick reactions, and ability to make attacking runs to beat the defensive line. He is in great form this year, and will be extremely crucial to Argentina’s chances in lifting the World Cup. He has scored 45 goals with 18 assists in 54 games he played for his club Barcelona. He has also scored 19 times in 27 matches he played for his country in the last two years. After a disappointing defeat in extra time in the last world Cup in 2014; Messi will be desperate to win the trophy. He will certainly be scoring goals a plenty in Russia and will make a last gasp effort for himself and his nation to triumph in Russia.
My prediction: 8 goals
